A most elegant dinner
Penda Pundu Restaurant offers fine dining in a chic setting

Isango Gate Boutique Hotel and Spa, situated at 23 Bournemouth Street, Summerstrand is Five Star and deservedly so. The elegance, comfort and sophistication of this hotel speaks for itself.

The hotel has a variety of facilities including the Ndlovu Sinazo Bar which offers scrumptious light snacks, refreshing cocktails and wines by the glass. The hotel has a great wine list and I recommend a glass or two, at the end of a busy day, on the deck overlooking the infinity pool.

The 10 suites are tastefully furnished to 5 star standards. Eight suites have private balconies with partial sea views and all the suites are equipped with free internet connection, fine linen, luxurious amenities and fully stocked mini fridge bars.

Isango Gate has various facilities and services for hosting events. The Mvumelwano Conferencing facility, which can seat up to 100 guests has state of the art technology. The boardroom is perfect for small, business meetings and caters for up to 8 guests.

Bespoke events can be arranged for high tea, exclusive dinners, cocktail functions and conferences. The hotel caters for up to 40 guests in the main dining area, 150 guests in the main dining area and the deck and 20 guests in the bar.

The Penda Pendu restaurant, meaning "together in our house" in Shona, recently launched its new menu and my partner and I were lucky enough to sample some of the latest dishes on a recent evening.

The menu is varied and extensive and contains a lot of South African favourites. The Slivers of Springbok Carpaccio served on a toasted home-made cranberry bread with Isangoís special chutney was delicious. Love to know whatís in the chutney because it was mop-up-your-plate good.

I am a big lamb fan and so was drawn to the rack of lamb with minted gravy. It was cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyable but, I have to say, my partnerís choice topped mine. Her butter pan seared prawns served on potato gnocchi, tossed with petit pol, toasted butternut cubes and grilled artichokes were simply amazing. I know this because she was kind enough to give me a taste.

Desert was a his and hers Banoffee Pancake and Chocolate Mousse respectively. This time my choice was best and after chatting for a few minutes longer and feeling replete, we thanked our waiter for his excellent service and headed for home.

It was a most pleasant evening and I can certainly see myself returning.
